For the most part of their careers, there has been this bitter, never-ending public feud between two of Nigeria’s biggest musical talents, Wizkid and Davido. It’s been much-publicised and quite distasteful to say the least, no thanks to fans’ insatiable appetite for celebrity gossip. But now, all of that bad blood might be coming to an end, many thanks to Banky W, the celebrity big brother of all of us.
While specially congratulating Davido [on Instagram] for winning the Best African Act at the 2017 Mobo Awards, Mr Capable also took some time to point out how very important both Wizkid and Davido are to the Nigerian music industry. According to him, there is no need to compare between the two artists because they are both very talented.
…Big ups to another young legend @davidoofficial on his wins. This talented lad came into the game, never stopped working, and never stopped winning. And I’m so proud of him as well.
What is better than one superstar? Two.
Wiz and David are both extremely important to the Naija/Afro music movement and culture, and I personally hate it when people try to make it seem like you have to choose one or the other. There’s enough room in the sky for all of our stars to fly. So instead of encouraging a childish, petty narrative that never ends well (remember Tupac/Biggie?), we should encourage all of our acts to be all that they can be. I don’t wanna choose. Why should I have to? I want Wiz and David and Olamide and Kiss Daniel and Tiwa and Yemi and eeeeerery last one of us who have somehow managed to break through, to remain successful and relevant. I pray the same for all our upcoming talents who are about to make it.
After all, no one wins when the family feuds. I’m clear why I’m here. How about you?
As expected, Banky’s very positive post have garnered many reactions from both the stars and the fans. Tiwa Savage commented to appreciate Banky for his words of wisdom, even as Davido reacted with the purple heart emoji.
The year is going to end on a happy note, guys. And hopefully, 2018 will begin on a fresh note, without bad blood, but lots of love and great music to come.
