Following the meeting yesterday between the Nigerian President and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachukwu at the State House in Abuja, sources close to the President has revealed his willingness to urgently look into the matters raised by the Minister.
Recall that the highly-publicised meeting between the President and the Minister was held to address the reported dispute between Kachukwu and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) Maikanti Baru.
In a leaked memo to the President, Kachukwu had decried what he perceived as Maikanti’s insubordination in the form of alleged award of contracts worth billions of dollars without consultations with the minister.
“The President took time to review all the issues raised in the August 30th memorandum. The points were considered one after the other” said a source close to the presidency who cannot be named for confidential reasons.
The source further disclosed that the President and the minister met for nearly an hour during which the minister did most of the talking and the President took notes.
From all indications, President Buhari might summon NNPC’s Board of Directors to explain/address the issues raised by Dr Ibe Kachukwu.
